Request an AppointmentWhat are night sweats?
Heavy sweating at night happens to many people occasionally, but regular night sweats are a common symptom of menopause. The sweating is profuse enough that it might soak through your clothing and even your sheets. When linked to a medical condition or hormone imbalance, heavy nighttime sweating has little or nothing to do with your bedroom temperature.
When you visit the Center for Youthful Aging with concerns about night sweats, you should tell Dr. Arne about any other symptoms you have too. Be sure to mention problems like fatigue, sexual dysfunction, weight gain, cold sweats, or brain fog. Other symptoms help Dr. Arne identify the underlying cause of your nighttime sweating, and he can use a hormone blood test to confirm.
What causes night sweats?
Night sweats can happen for various reasons. Medical conditions, medications, and sleep environment issues can cause the issue. You might sweat a lot at night because of the following:
- Anxiety
- Antidepressants
- Methadone
- Diabetes medications
- Sleep disorders
- Substance use disorder
One major cause of night sweats is menopause, which happens to women when they stop ovulating. During menopause, your body slows the production of estrogen and progesterone hormones. The resulting hormone imbalance causes symptoms like night sweats and hot flashes.
How are night sweats treated?
You can undergo BHRT to manage night sweats and other symptoms associated with fluctuating hormones during menopause. BHRT typically involves pellet therapy with BioTe®, a pellet placed under your skin that gradually releases the necessary hormones.
Around 4-6 weeks after the pellet’s implantation, you can start to feel the improvements from BHRT. Dr. Arne monitors you closely as you go through hormone replacement therapy to ensure you experience improvements without experiencing side effects or complications.
Full hormone optimization can take up to six months, but everybody is different and has different needs. Dr. Arne teaches you how to take care of the insertion site after implanting the pellet so you get the best possible results.
